In this monthly series of articles, Mike will discuss the science and practice of physical training for Water Polo. Strength, flexibility, Water Polo science, rehab and other areas of interest with respect to the physical development of the Water Polo athlete will be covered.

The rotator cuff is commonly implicated as the problem of most shoulder injuries and dysfunction. Unfortunately it is more likely an innocent bystander then an accomplice. There are many factors that relate directly to how well a shoulder will function. Some of them are:

These are just some of the potential roots of any shoulder dysfunction. But with all that being said, we still need to train the shoulders to be strong and mobile. In this article I give you several exercises to train the rotator cuff muscles for mobility/movement and for stabilization. Both functions should be trained as part of a complete shoulder health program.
