Moving Ball

Coaching Tips #9 by Ashleigh Huckins Marist College

Tip 1 Don’t set ultimatums. Be ready for the unexpected and circumstances to take place, setting ultimatums limits your ability to react appropriately and on a situational basis.
Tip 2 Come with a clear focus for each training week and each practice but be willing to adjust as the practice and week takes shape, some things are worth spending more time on even if you don't get to the bottom of your practice plan.
Tip 3 Keep things interesting, we play / coach this sport because we are competitive! Keeping the athletes engaged through “friendly” competition brings new life to the minutes and the drills for coaches and athletes alike.
Tip 4 Having a candy bowl around never hurt anybody.
Tip 5 Don’t expect your athletes to perform things in games that they haven’t had the chance to try at least one time beforehand.

Playing Tips #9 by Desiree Desaulniers Marist College

Tip 1 Don’t duck your head under water in set to improve tunnel vision.
Tip 2 Make sure you watch set to determine defense, don’t leave your 2M defense without help or allow ball to swing if they are front.
Tip 3 Keep your head up on counter defense so you know where to position yourself and prevent the easiest pass and shooting opportunity.
Tip 4 Be flexible on plays. A lot of times, they are not going to run correctly and your team is going to need to improvise.
Tip 5 Adaptation is a key to winning games. If the ref does not like your style of play, adjust and try something new. Good water polo is all about knowing how to fix something during a game when emotions are high or things don’t go your way
