Congratulations to all of the girls!

The Orange County Register’s All-County girls water polo teams for the 2019-20 season:

FIRST TEAM

Emma Lineback, Laguna Beach, Jr.

The Register’s Player of the Year.

Malia Allen, Foothill, Sr.

The left-handed attacker, who is bound for UCLA, helped the Knights reach their first CIF-SS Division 1 final since 2016. The All-CIF selection earned all-tournament honors at the Irvine Southern California Championships.

Maya Avital, Corona del Mar, Sr., GK

The Stanford-bound Avital was selected first-team All-CIF in Division 2 and the outstanding goalie at the Irvine Southern California Championships. “When Maya is at her best, she’s still the best goalie (in high school water polo),” Laguna Beach coach Ethan Damato said of the 2019 Orange County player of the year.

Caroline Christl, Santa Margarita, Sr.

The Cal-bound attacker remained one of the most consistent scorers in the county, scoring 119 goals to help the Eagles earn a share of the Trinity League title and reach the Division 1 playoffs. “She is a strong shooter who always kept us in games,” Santa Margarita coach Brian Weathersby said. “All-around solid player and great teammate.” Christl added a team-high 42 steals.

Julia Janov, Foothill, Sr.

The USC-bound attacker used her perimeter shooting and finishing skills on the counterattack to help the Knights reach the Division 1 final. She was selected first-team All-CIF and all-tournament in Santa Barbara.

Anna Pearson, Orange Lutheran, So.

The Trinity League MVP scored 95 goals and added 41 assists and 69 steals to help the Lancers earn a share of the league title. She earned all-tournament honors at the Irvine Southern California Championships and Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions.

Grace Pelky, San Clemente, Sr.

The South Coast League MVP scored 121 goals to help the Tritons reach a second consecutive CIF Division 2 final. The UC Davis-bound attacker also earned first-team All-CIF honors.

Molly Renner, Laguna Beach, Jr.

The swift attacker produced 63 goals, 43 assists and 34 steals to help the Breakers defend their CIF Division 1 title and capture the CIF SoCal Division I regional crown. “Dynamic player,” Laguna Beach coach Ethan Damato said of Renner, MVP of the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions.

Mallory Reynoso, Foothill, Sr.

The Cal-bound Reynoso emerged as one of the best 2-meter defenders in the county and earned the Crestview League MVP for the Division 1 runner-up Knights. She also was selected first-team All-CIF.

Taylor Smith, Newport Harbor, So.

The aggressive attacker helped the Sailors reach the Division 1 semifinals for the first time since 2015 by scoring two clutch goals in the fourth period in a 9-7 victory against Santa Margarita. She also collected seven steals in the match. Smith earned all-tournament honors at the Irvine SoCal Championships and first-team All-CIF.

Congratulations! Always interesting to see Albano’s take on High school water polo.

11 girls on each team? He has alway used true 7 person teams in the past. I wonder why the change?
