Re: Luca (and others) talking to refs during game?

In the CIF central coast section (high school): if a coach receives a yellow card, the coach must stay seated on the bench (during play) for the remainder of the game. This local rule was implemented about 10 years ago and had a huge positive effect on reducing red cards to coaches.

Re: Big Splash

The game was originally scheduled for Saturday. Then TV asked for Thursday night. But then TV realized that the lights at Avery were not up to current broadcast standards, so TV switched the game to 2:30pm. However, what TV didn't know at the time is that Stanford had upgraded their lighting system ...

Re: 2X overtime? CCS

Keep in mind that water polo's definition of OT (NCAA, HS) requires two overtime periods. Meanwhile most US sports start at one overtime period (e.g., basketball). So when a US newspaper sports editor sees a water polo box score that includes the standard two OT periods, the editor defaults to the m...

Re: CIF STATE rankings and playoffs

When girls water polo first started at the HS level in NorCal, boys WP and girls swimming competed in the fall...boys swimming and girls WP competed in the spring. They combined swimming seasons so they could have a state HS meet. The reality is that not all qualified swimmers and/or teams show up f...

Re: Barbara Kalbus Invitational

International vs NCAA officiating. The NCAA has asked officials to call the "backdoor push off" if it directly/immediately provides an undue advantage. The NCAA wants a less physical game than top-flight FINA. This comes from the NCAA rules committee which is chiefly staffed by coaches. Th...

Re: 2016 ALL AMERICAN TEAM

I believe for Nisca you need to pay to be on it. I'm sure the process is changed but this should give you an idea as to how it kinda works. Correct. So if a coach does not pay to be part of the process, he/she is not in a position to nominate and/or vote for any players. Including any players from ...

Re: Cal v USC Final

NCAA referees are limited to working three consecutive NCAA championship finals before they have to take a year off from the tournament. Each gender has it's own count - so it's possible that a ref may have to take off the men's tournament but still work the women's tournament in the same academic y...

Re: UCLA at USC

If that is so, then this was a misapplication of the rules which probably changed the outcome of the game since it occurred early on. A misapplication of the rules is protestable up to and including 5 minutes after the end of the game. I'm surprised that Wright didn't say anything. Doru: I'm going ...

Two things: - I will clarify my comments. - Smart-behind comments/editorial do nothing towards fostering civil and academic discussions. Haven't you learned anything from this year's election? Mr. Roll is correct in reproducing the text from the NCAA rule book. And as written, I understand the concl...

Re: Faking...

If Hooper received a yellow card in an NCAA game, the card was for a low level disrespect or misconduct, not for Simulation. There is no Simulation foul or warning in the NCAA rule book.

Re: California State Girls High School Championships - July 15-17

Allen, I know there was lots of water polo going on this past weekend, but that still doesn't answer these 2 questions: 1. Why did USAWP schedule their Open Tournament the same weekend as the California High School State Championships, the one weekend in the year when all the top teams from SS and ...

Ah, forgot that part . You're right, penalty.

I believe the correct phrase should be: "since the player had fouled out...". "Major" refers to a game exclusion foul (Misconduct, Brutatlity, etc.).

Re: MPSF Update?

Not throwing any shade on any HS athlete who made the All-America list (an earlier post mentioned that some Ivies lassoed some AA's), but the AA list is not exactly a full representation of the talent out there in the HS landscape. The nomination and award process is nothing like what you see at the...
