Re: 2021 Season

Keith Wilbur has been the coach at SCU for about 20 years. Good guy, good coach. He played at Princeton and I believe he was part of the Nat team in the mid-late 90’s. He coaches both the men’s and women’s team. They’ve generally been a top 4 or 5 team in the WWPA but they have never won a conferenc...

Twins Pitcher Credits Water Polo

Pulled this off The Athletic. Cool article by Dan Hayes… Back when he was at fourth-grade water polo camp, all Joe Ryan wanted to do was learn how to skip the ball. The now-Twins rookie pitcher watched other boys bouncing their throws off the pool’s surface and hoped to emulate them. For nearly two ...

Re: US Men’s Head Coach Hot Board

Flacks doesn’t just get talented kids he develops them. Hallock is a perfect example. He does have advantages that most HS coaches don’t have but that does not take away from his water polo knowledge and his teaching ability. Anyone who thinks you could drop any old coach into his position and get t...

Re: Tokyo Olympics

Ok so the women are the 2nd most dominant team in sports in the 21st century. Still something worth promoting. The thing is ESPN doesnt make the documentaries on their channel. Film makers make documentaries and distribute them to the various outlets…espn, netflix, history channell, etc, in an effor...

Re: Lack of support/interest in the Women's team?
HawkinsPolo4 I agree the other countries are taking our play book and using it against us. It appears that our ladies are getting a little slower in their older age. The lack of center play I think goes to the fact that it is not being coached for the simple fact the pe...

Re: Where in the World is Jovan?

Several coaches/admin at various schools have already had their court cases and sentencing. Stanford, UCLA, Yale, etc.

NCAA hasn’t sanctioned anyone. Why would USC or the water polo team be treated any differently?

Re: Class of 2022 Commits

The schools are not committing to the students, the students are committing to the schools ‘verbally’ as opposed to ‘in-writting’, which is un-official. The commitments become official when National Letter of Intent is signed by the student and sent to the school (in the case of a scholarship offer)...

Re: 2021 Junior Olympics

Is California the only state in the country that is not allowing its youth sports teams to travel out of state to play in tournaments? Is that a relatively new rule? What about all of those water polo tournaments last fall in Utah that CA teams were competing in? If the issue is Newsome, why isnt US...

Re: JO Qual Rosters Help
Nobody mentioned a financial component, as far as I remember, so I have no idea why oldtimer brought it up. .
The financial component was brought up up by Rational, about 10 posts up. Estimate was $2000 per family (entry fee, rental car, food, hotel). I’d say that...

Re: JO Qual Rosters Help

“It depends. Parents of better players on those non-CA teams (with dreams of getting better and better and maybe playing in college) probably value very much an opportunity for their kids to play against stronger opponents- this is how kids get better after all. “ I agree with this, but 5-6 games a ...

Re: JO Qual Rosters Help

Probably something worth doing regardless of the pandemic. A non-CA JOs would be a very fun and competitive tournament, and a USWP sponsored CA state championship with all of the top clubs would be equally exciting. Both events would be good for the sport at the age-group level. If the tourneys were...

Re: JO Qual Rosters Help

Seems reasonable, but arent most non california teams faced with the dilema of quals and HS season conflicts every year? How are they able to manage? I’m all for getting kids a chance to participate, I just would hate to see bigger clubs taking advantage of the roster flexibility to move kids around...

Re: USAWP Sexual Abuse Investigation

“It's shameful that it is generally assumed that Sicard and Ramsey were willfully ignorant. You don't know what you don't know.” People are only ‘assuming’ what the Register is reporting. Are the articles in the Register false? Do you think they failed to properly investigate the accusations made by...

Re: Likelihood of winter season?

Well put Oldtimer. As you well know, many will disagree because the science doesn’t tell them what they want to hear. And then there’s those few who simply have a hard time understanding things when there’s too many words to read. I guess it makes their head hurt or something. Nonetheless, more and ...
