Re: Coach Deck Change - Weird or Me?

Thanks for the laugh, Coyote. I already suggested to the Powers That Be that there are many good reasons for coaching on deck - including developing a good relationship with parents who sometimes watch practice. This guy has not been retaining players so it's just a matter of time.

Re: Comments about home page article - perimeter fouls

I have a simple explanation for all this: it's called "contempt of referee". The biggest culprits are actually coaches, who teach their players when and how to break what rule, yell at the referee from the sidelines when they don't get away with it, and lobby the governing bodies to creat...

Re: abc news link -- Wow - swim has no contact compared to water polo.

Don’t deck change in front of your kids.

Yeah - there doesn't seem to be any upside and, after reading that story, it's like inviting a problem.

Re: Comments about home page article - perimeter fouls

Great article, Dante. I generally agree but sometimes it is hard to officiate - especially with one ref - when the players are spread out all over and the ball is under pressure at half tank. How do you decide what to watch? I'd rather look for the opportunity to call the foul to, essentially, conso...

Re: Correct Passing/Shooting Technique?

I think it is all about touch. Even with tiny hands, a player with a great touch can get the ball in hand instantly from the top. Beginners tend to have very hard hands so it is easier to develop their touch by asking them to cradle the ball from beneath. So, yes, beginners need to learn to have sof...

Re: Coach Deck Change - Weird or Me?

I'm not talking about boys. I'm talking about a 35 year old man barely draped with a towel who takes off his work clothes and puts on his Speedo rather than stop and change in the locker room that he passed through in order to get to the pool. It is really creepy to see him publicly disrobe in order...

Re: Call question, was this correct?

I understood that originally he couldn't shoot because he obtained possession of the ball as a result of a contrafoul and swam the ball down towards the cage he was attacking. Then he was awarded an ordinary foul inside the 5 so he still couldn't shoot. A shot was possible on the other side and the ...

Re: Fouls On Perimeter With Both Hands Down

I would agree completely that often coaches referee more than many refs. That being said, the question of evaluation is not so much one of time spent behind the whistle but more of one of who is capable of judging how close a particular referee is whistling to the standard. Unfortunately, our sport ...

Re: Fouls On Perimeter With Both Hands Down

I'm not convinced that giving current NCAA players a say in referee evaluations is the best avenue I completely agree. Player feedback is of limited usefulness - specifically only being able to reasonably address probably clarity of signalization and mechanics and perhaps consistency surrounding ty...

Re: Fouls On Perimeter With Both Hands Down

If, indeed, the attacker could not have scored even in the absence of contact due to his positioning and you were between him and the goal and the ref could not possibly have construed your actions as sinking, it would be very hard for most officials to justify an exclusion. That being said, the ref...

Re: Defending a Direct Shot

Is the defensive player required to give space to the offensive player?

To clarify, the defender is not required to move - he just may not move to encroach. Correct?

Re: Referee and Coach Training

I'm not surprised they are unhappy. I've personally seen Rotsart make some really bad calls at high level games. Like momentum and possibly outcome changing calls. Do we provide FINA the list of our country's eligible refs or did they choose him as a ref representing us?

Re: Coach Deck Change - Weird or Me?

The comment of professionalism totally hits home. 100% on the mark. Coach should show up on time and prepared and not be changing clothes while his players are coming to practice. I never thought that it would be creepy for boys to see naked men but I guess that could be the case. I always thought i...
