Re: Facing up in center

I'm going to make a wild guess here - I'm thinking that the interpretation is that those playing center/center D don't really intend to go anywhere, therefore keeping them from going anywhere isn't really 'impeding'. Kind of like, if a player is being held but he doesn't actually try to move - there...

Facing up in center

I was reading an older post about players locking up on the perimeter vs. in center position, but I am still unclear on one thing. I've heard several people tell me that if the ball is passed in to center while he/she is facing the defender, it is an automatic contra-foul. What I seem to have gather...

Re: New CIF Transfer Rules

I helped start an age group club about one year ago in a school district that has three high schools. This district has always allowed students to transfer where they want (based upon whether there are opening at the school). As a result, the HS coaches are very jealous of their athletes and the pol...

Re: Did I make the correct call?

I also appreciate the action to teach the player proper conduct. I wish all coaches would do so. If I may, I'd like to relate a situation that occurred just this past weekend. We were in a 14U boys bracket, and it was our first game in the 'A' flight (we've been playing 'B' until now). The team we p...

Re: Water Polo and Ice Hockey - a Comparison

I helped start a club last year, but it required making a partnership with a swim club. The only reason it worked is because the swim club was not growing quickly, but pool fees were increasing dramatically. We had started our club three months before the agreement with the swim club, and had about ...

Re: Water Polo and Ice Hockey - a Comparison

This is obviously a hot button topic. I've heard/read complaints about current USAWP leadership, but I don't know enough details to know if they are really valid complaints. To (somewhat) validate burritoman's point/concern, I have two boys in middle school who will be playing in HS for the next 4/5...

Re: Water Polo and Ice Hockey - a Comparison

I guess my point is/was that sports is simply entertainment after all (though we who are involved might want to think it is much more important than that!). If you can't entertain, you can't draw crowds. I don't believe spectators want to truly understand what's going on, they just want to be entert...

Re: Water Polo and Ice Hockey - a Comparison

Apologies (once again) for bringing to life an old thread. I also apologize for not having read the entire thread, since my time is limited - but, I do have a few observations to make regarding the comparision to hockey (and to basketball as well). These are my impressions from when I was much young...

Re: Contra Fouls

I may have mis-remembered the thread, as I have been reading through many of these. That being the case - the last question I have still remains: Is this a result of a change in how the calls are made, or the result of 'bad coaching' of the center players? I have been playing with someone who get se...

Contra Fouls

In reading various threads here, I came across one that opined about the increased frequency of contra fouls being called on the perimeter, and it suggested this is the reason the driving game has been lost. This raises several questions in my mind: 1) Is the 'problem' that these fouls are being cal...

Re: Call question, was this correct?

Apologies for bringing an old thread back to life... So, if I am reading Russ' and Doru Roll's explanation - the exclusion is appropriate because the attacker was not holding the ball at the time of the foul, however if he had been it would be... an ordinary foul, or no foul at all? (he is holding t...

Re: Major fouls question

Thanks Russ! Yes, the reason I indicated the center is being fronted is because I wanted to eliminate any question about WP7.3 being involved at that position. Now, here is another scenario that I want to be sure I understand. White team is on the attack, with at least 3 offensive players (with defe...

Re: Major fouls question

Excellent. Thank you. In the experience of those here, is this something that is often called - or rarely called? I get the idea of the delay, but one reason I am asking is that I don't see a lot of driving/movement being taught these days. Is it because this foul is not being called (so, little pen...

Major fouls question

I am very new to refereeing, and was fortunate to be able to take the WPA course on minor fouls before it was discontinued. Having not had the benefit of the Major Fouls course, I have a question that I hope some will help me with. If I am recalling my education correctly, a minor foul - being a fou...

Re: Rules Discussion

Greetings to all polo enthusiasts, coaches, referees and players! First time posting, though I have been reading this site for a few years. I have been reading everything I can find on how this sport has evolved, what its problems are, and where it may be going. The variety of opinions is very inter...
