Re: 2021 CIFSS D5 Thread

From what I observed this weekend, Downey looks pretty good but I think Citrus Valley might be right up there with them.

Re: 2021 CIFSS D4 Thread

Looks like Crespi got a few new club players, but from what I saw this past weekend Portola is probably the top contender in this division.

Re: Top 15 Teams - 2021

I must say that while I am not a 'sports fan' in the sense of following teams and players (in any sport), I am a huge fan of the kind of analysis that Jeff obviously loves to do. I find his posts very enjoyable to read, and very educational since I don't actually follow the sport in that way - and h...

Re: 2021 CIFSS D1 Thread

Either I have a misunderstanding of CIF rules, or others do. Here is what I think I understand... A player cannot compete for two different teams during the HS season. They can practice with anyone. CIF has no authority over what an individual does on his/her own time - private lessons, scrimmage wi...

Thank you. A few teams are missing from the 'Season Preview' document, unless I have some blinders on.

League/Division info for a couple of schools

It appears that a number of teams changed leagues since 2019. As usual, the CIF-SS info has a few missing pieces so I don't know if a school has moved to a different CIF section, dropped water polo or has just been overlooked. If anyone has info on the following schools, please post their league/div...

Re: 2021 CIFSS D4 Thread

Most probably Crespi will make it. The rest of the field I'm not sure about because this past year saw a lot of seniors graduate

Re: 2021 CIFSS D6 Thread

Since the advent of power rankings to determine division, coaches in the lower levels need to be more mindful of their schedules. The reality is that most leagues will have enough higher level teams that those playing D6/7 in those leagues will simply have no chance of being top 3 or 4. When all tea...

Re: Toyko Olympics

One of the things that has surprised me about the now 'Japanese' style (some would argue it's just modern day Dante/Stanford) of extreme passing lane/fronting everywhere and 100% counter attack hard all players all the time...is that other teams have not developed it as a some time or part time opt...

Re: JO Qual Rosters Help

Just a quick follow up - sort of 'thinking out loud'. Presume that a National Championship is held right around the 1st of August, about the time JOs is held, and that it is limited to 48 teams. Would it be possible to hold all age groups and genders on the same weekend? I'm thinking 'yes', presumin...

Re: JO Qual Rosters Help

That would work for the boys, in part because the HS seasons are aligned - but not so much for the girls. Kap7 doesn't even have a 16/18u girls division as all the teams are in their HS season. Cal Cup has tried to have a North vs South event in April and the NorCal teams just won't show up, only 4...

Re: JO Qual Rosters Help

[ Other than pure speculation, why would kids go to another club only to find they are on the B/C/D team and don't compete anyway? This is known as a red herring fallacy - an appeal to consequences. It isn't a 'reason', it is an excuse as I had mentioned. What would this forum do if oldtimer stoppe...

Re: JO Qual Rosters Help

I see no reason why having a regional championship that feeds into a national championship would be a problem. I think the issue is timing, looking at the 16/18s - For most, Swim ends in April, then May has a bunch of AP tests and there are HS graduations and Prom in May/early June. NTSC is Memoria...

Re: JO Qual Rosters Help

I think this idea of a JO super championships is horrible. You will have kids bailing on their clubs to try to make this super final. You we get more super teams with ODP kids joining forces outside the clubs that helped to developed them. We already have ODP champs. ODP is the best way to get the ...

Re: JO Qual Rosters Help

Great points. I was reading that at some point in the past, 75 to 80% of players in NHL were Canadian. That number is now closer to 50% with the the other 50% being split between US and European players, so probably with the efforts of USA hockey to expand the sport in USA and the NHL efforts to at...
