But I'm puzzled about how USC dropped to #3 a few weeks after a close 1 goal loss (first and only loss of year) to California and has remained in #3 since then despite beating #2 California, #4 Stanford twice, #5 Long Beach State, #6 Pacific, #8 UC Davis twice, #9 San Jose State, and #10 Pepperdine by a combined 131-80 goals. Remaining games against #7 UC Santa Barbara and #1 UCLA. I see these upcoming games as "pre-season" for when the real action starts in MPSF and NCAA. But seedings are important. Bottom line: just win when it counts.

Pretty simple. Neither of the teams above them has lost since moving into the #1 and #2 spots. Yes USC beat Cal, but in the most recent game (and the MPSF game) Cal beat USC. USC gets to play UCLA and move to #2 if they do.
