It would be an interesting look to see from 2-3 years ago, which players are still at the University they chose and if they are still playing. Kind of a "Lois" list in retrospect...

Todd Conway is still at Fordham. He was first-team All-East last season for the Rams as a sophomore.

I've seen Cullen Hennessey play a few times. He's probably the best player to come out of Marin County since Blake Wellen. I bet he makes a big impact at UCLA.

Sean McCreery is at Johns Hopkins and I want to say he was the Division III Player of the Year last season. At the very least he was one of the top players in the East.

Nick Arrigo is at UC Davis and was All-WWPA and I believe an All-American (Honorable Mention).

I think these guys are no longer playing for a variety of reasons. I also think those reasons are personal to each player. Like most students they chose the schools they did for a variety of reasons.

LF-I know a lot of those guys, and many others that had expectations of playing at the college level only to receive a very rude awakening upon their arrival at programs with 20+ returners, 5-10 incoming recruits, and another 10-15 walk-ons. True I expect they're happy with the school their attending, but one point that Trevor is making is they could have been just as happy at many other schools AND still be playing water polo.

I'd only add Trevor..that they don't all have to look East. There are plenty of similar opportunities at some WWPA/SCIAC schools in the West.

I agree, players could go to a SCIAC school, and get a better education and have a awsome carrer.

You are absolutely right. I was mentioning the East, but it would be just as good for the sport if these guys went to WWPA/SCIAC schools. It would the sport's premier event much more entertaining.

WWPA College - AF ranked 17th

James Street - UCSB ( 4th Team ) Hawaii - 2 year eligibility left
MPSF College

Arik Look - Claremont ( HM) Hawaii - Playing *Starter
WWPA /Sciac college - ranked 20th - varies

Jason Fung ( 2004 All-American List) is at Air Force and playing 2nd year

The boys that went to Chaminade and BYU Hawaii lost their teams when those schools canceled their teams last year.

From 2002 - You still have one player at UCLA - Cameron Smith a 5th year senior playing

"I would be so much better for the sport as a whole if these players went East and played at a Fordham, George Washington or Bucknell. Sometimes you have to know your limitations. I got some nibbles from bigger schools, but I settled on Fordham and had a nice career. If more players would realize that and head East it would improve the entire collegiate game. Take those six kids above and throw them on this year's Bucknell squad. All of the sudden you have a team that would be pretty dangerous on a national level."[/quote]

Maybe their families couldn't afford the price tag at a Bucknell or a George Washington, however good it would have been for the sport. Both are extremely expensive private schools that aren't known for generous financial aid.
