#6 Don Lugo and Rio Mesa went into overtime - it will be closer than you think.
Re: CIF PLAYOFFS
Yolopolo, I like that you gave your opinion on the outcome of the CIFSS playoffs and championships. I know some will disagree but that is what makes it fun, and as the saying goes: that is why they play the game.
Anyways, my list will just be who I think will end up Champions in each division. Up front, I will say I have not seen every team play so take it for what it is worth, an opinion only.
D1: Mater Dei
D2: Foothill
D3: Murrieta Valley
D4: Righetti
D5: ?
D6:Segerstrom
D7: ?

Re: CIF PLAYOFFS
Newport over Wilson.... Missing current starters in previous games and playing better without the HB transfer. Loss to CDM and HB by 1 goal and on a 6 game winning streak.
J Serra over Agoura and OLU will beat HB by 1

Re: CIF PLAYOFFS
I think Hoovers going to win it all. They have a very strong team and I've seen them do a lot of crazy things and they can be the one to take it all. Cv will give them a good game in the finals, as those two are in the same league. Righetti is strong but not stronger than hoover. I haven't seen SAMO do anything special, but they're ranked 3rd so well see what they come up with. Personally, Hoover has great depth, a great coach, and a deep bench. I predict Hoover will win.

I agree with your prognostication of J Serra over Agoura (sort of)…and also with Newport over Wilson….but Olu over HB?! I guess there is nothing wrong with lofty wishful thinking. Regardless, the winner of this match-up then has the pleasure of seeing HW in the next go-around. Good luck with that!
Re: CIF PLAYOFFS
the semis will be
md vs loyola
hw vs hb
md vs hw finals
too close to call finals, would have taken md except the loss to loyola has me rethinking it.
also hb over olu by 8 in qtr's

I respectfully disagree. Although Hoover and CV may have shown some improvement, Righetti will walk through playoffs. I don't see a single team in the division that could challenge them for 4 WHOLE quarters, as Righetti is traditionally (and this year is no exception) a very smart and extremely well conditioned team.

Re: CIF PLAYOFFS
Curious, can someone explain to me what the division breakdown is for the SS and what area it covers? I thought they were by playing ability / level but I am pretty sure there are cases where lower division teams can beat those in higher divisions. If this happens, how are adjustments made? Our divisions in CCS are broken down by student body size.

Re: CIF PLAYOFFS
My understanding is that it is based upon the performance of the top team or teams in a league. Every two years they make adjustments based upon that criteria. Therefore you can have a higher division League with a really bad team or teams that annually finish at the bottom that are carried by the top team(s) in that league.
However, all of that is supposed to go away next season when they implement the new system that rates each team in a league differently based upon their performance, allowing for teams from the same league to go to different CIF playoff divisions. This is the way it is currently done in basketball.

Re: CIF PLAYOFFS
Skallagrimsson is correct cif moves leagues around every two years, when they last realigned leagues (2014) they mostly based their decision upon a teams performance in 2013 and their perceived performance in the next 2 years. The number one team in the league determines which division the league will be placed in, does not matter how the quality of the league as a whole is. You could have something like the pacific coast league where traditionally CDM has easily dominated the league or you could have something like the trinity league every year where 4 or 5 CIF quality teams were competing for 3 spots. Leagues are usually comprised of schools geographically, by school district, private/public status and or religious affiliation. Additionally football plays a big role in it. For example the trinity league is a bunch of catholic schools in oc, the Moore league are LBUSD schools and the sunset league are coastal public schools in north OC. The CIF SS covers basically all of southern ca from San clamente to SLO excluding the bottom portion for the SDS and any school in the LAUSD which are in the LA City section. Re: CIF PLAYOFFS
How will they determine the match-up's? Based on scores as well as who they play? There are tons of teams in the OC who have winning records, score lots of goals but never play the top 7 teams and place high in their league ... how do u evaluate them? Why don't they have a tournament like they do for JO's?

I agree with most Div 1 predictions how ever, NH will most likely beat LB and Jserra will beat Agora.
