Finally! I've been waiting for these CIF SS division threads.

I hate to say it, but Kennedy didn't field a team for the 2020 season and as far as I know, won't be fielding a team this year.

Most probably Crespi will make it. The rest of the field I'm not sure about because this past year saw a lot of seniors graduate

I believe Crespi will still be a strong D4 contender, but they lost a key piece to transfer after they won their last championship.

Looks like Crespi got a few new club players, but from what I saw this past weekend Portola is probably the top contender in this division.

Based on my dump of CIF scores (not all are entered, but I know results from last weekend's Corona Invite), my guess is that the rankings for D4 should be:

1. Portola
2. Crespi
3. Elsinore
4. Glendale
5. Several teams could fit here.

Oldtimer- do you have the results for the tourney? They didn’t have a link on their website

I don't know how long they will be there, but here is the link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... edit#gid=0

Some of the scores have not made their way into the CIF database, so are not reflected in my rankings. It was pointed out to me that La Canada did well, and probably be #4 instead of Glendale.

Saw Portola play tonight and was impressed. . they lost by 2 against Northwood. Both teams played strong D and the whistles were quiet as both are pretty disciplined teams. Guessing if they keep it up they will look very strong in D4.

Current top 10 with my 'power' scores (this division differs from the 'official' polls/rankings more than any of the others. Seems like there is a lot of inconsistency in how teams play in this division, so my algorithm has difficulty due to not comparing head-to-head scores):

1. Fullerton
2. Elsinore
3. Camarillo
4. St. John Bosco
5. Poly/Long Beach
6. Marina
7. Laguna Hills
8. Glendale
9. Poly/Pasadena
10. Portola

CIF sent out an email telling coaches/ADs that they had to have their schedules/scores verified by 10/28. This would allow CIF to simply download the scores to determine who qualifies and what the seeding should be.

Unless CIF has a separate data base, there are a lot of teams that did not update their scores on CIF home. Two years ago (2019) the vast majority of schools complied, so downloading the database on the day prior to the CIF seeding resulted in very few anomalies and conflicts. This year, nothing has been actually changed for most schools - there are literally hundreds of mismatches, misspelled school names, games vs JV teams that are not identified, etc. This is true even for the presumed Open division teams.

I'm curious how CIF will handle this. If they don't have the actual data, how can their ranking software work unless someone is willing to do the manual effort to fix the issues (which takes a lot of effort...)

Congrats to LB Poly for what I think is their first CIF Water Polo title since 1929. They defeated Crespi 14-11. Congrats too to Crespi for a great season in getting to the finals.

Watched the second half, LBP moved the ball well, great drives, opening up many scoring opportunities. Great comeback from a large deficit after first quarter. Frustrating to see a top young player get his third exclusion for pushing the lane line over his head when returning to play from an exclusion. I get the rule but when it does not create any advantage at all, it seems like a ref could give the coach standing next to him a warning.
