I think Buena lost its top players to graduation. We played them last year not sure how deep they go beyond their top 2-3. I do like their coach. Predictions will be very difficult with the short season last year with younger rising classmen not getting much playing time on many teams. Should be an exiting division to watch but pool time, club time, or if they even had a team last year will crate some lopsided results. I do think Buena had a good shot last year. All of the graduated seniors got the shaft. They lost a shot at CIF, try to find a college that everyone got to stay for another year.....

Any thoughts on how the early season is shaping up? Probably going to have some wild swings in the lower divisions because of 2020 not giving us much to go on

From what I observed this weekend, Downey looks pretty good but I think Citrus Valley might be right up there with them.

Based on current CIF data base results, it looks like the following to me:

1. Carpinteria (has beaten 4 teams in a higher division and not lost to a D5 team)
2. Downey (has beaten 5 D5 teams and one higher division team)
3. Burbank (has beaten 3 teams in a higher division)
4. Centennial/Corona (5-0 vs D5 teams)
5. Citrus Valley (4-1 vs D5 teams)

There are several others that have beaten one or two higher division teams, but I haven't done any analysis on which teams. Overall record is not always a good indicator, though there are a few with better records than some of those in my list.

Just did a little bit of tweaking to my spreadsheet and noticed a very interesting thing. This being an abnormal year, the power ranking process is not working quite as well as in 2019, it seems to me, as I see some D1/D2 teams not performing well at all and some lower division teams performing very well compared to their division rivals.

There are two in particular that were flagged as outliers in my spreadsheet. One is St. John Bosco, a D4 team that beat Woodbridge, a D1 team. The other is Carpinteria, a D5 team that has beaten Dos Pueblos (D1), Santa Ynez (D2) and Agoura (D2).
