CSU Fullerton Women

The Associate AD interview (on the Men's thread) confirms the women will start competition in the Spring of '23, that means in 7 months. It's late June and there isn't a coach yet.
All the graduated HS Seniors have their plans already - can someone apply to school in July for admission to classes that start in August? If there's no recruits does that mean there's no scholarships the first year either? Most kids in the transfer portal enter when the season is over in May and have been in touch with coaches by now / been able to apply to school.

Is the plan for '23 "we have 40,000 students in Orange county, surely we can find 20 walk-ons that have some polo experience"

CSUN had this same issue in 2001. They named a coach in July. That coach quit in August. They named another coach in October. They played in January. It can be done.

Not trying to be a jerk, but did CSUN win a game in 2001 or 2002 (whichever was their first season). Searched for a schedule and couldn't find, no media guide with archives either.

Not a good look to start a D1 program and not win any games or only beat D3 opponents. Feels like the women may be set up to fail that first year.

That's a memory test, but I do remember CSUN was better than the DIII schools immediately. By year 2 they were playing even and trading wins with Cal Baptist and ASU (also new programs). By year 3 they were competitive in the Big West.

I suspect CSUF can follow a similar trajectory. Being an Orange County school can only help.

CORRECTION***

I just found the CSUN record history on the CSUN site. In the first year (2002) CSUN was 5-23. In year 2 they were 24-8 playing an independent schedule, and in year 3 they were 19-14. In the next 4 years CSUN was in Mountain Pacific and were under .500 all four years, but only slightly. Big West became a 6-team conference in 2009 and CSUN tied UC Irvine for first in the regular schedule. In 2010 Marcelo took over and went 28-8 and popped into the top 10 rankings.

Yes they may be D1 but nobody realistically expects them to be a top program, for a few years to come. They can get there sooner than later. Lots of players in OC. Brand new pool deck. Admissions not as hard as UCs. Now they just need a good coach :D

I predict CSUF will be a competitive program in 3 years. Being in OC, CSUF is a viable alternative for the players in OC, LA and the IE that do not get in the Big 4 schools. Cost would be so much less. Low tuition fee and option to commute is a plus.
