Here are the top 12 zone seeds for the 2018 NJO for each age group based upon the 2017 NJO finishes for each age group.

So how does this work, exactly? Last year's results set placement for each region this year?

Do they make adjustments at all or is that set in stone?

Set in stone. (Unless, I assume, zone allocations change over the prior year, but even if that transpired, that would only affect the lowest seeds.)

This is correct. If a zone does not qualify enough teams to fill their allocation, then there will be some movement, but as stated, this would only for lower seeds.

It looks like this year Session 1 will only be Boys, as they have moved the 10U Mixed to session 2

I'd expect this works better at the older ages than the younger. Looking at the way the 12U's went at Cal Cup, there are going to be a few really good lower seeded teams.

In 18U Boys #2 seed will go to Coastal since SB Premier is from the Coastal Zone.

A clarifying question regarding last year's results determining this year's seeds: does the seed move up with the team? What I mean is...a lot of those 16U results are boys that are now 18U. And of course a lot of the 18u's from last year are gone. For instance, last year's SOCAL 18u's finished 7th. This year's 18's are nothing at all like that team, but will be seeded 7th?

Second question: at CalCup, Del Mar invite, etc., there's a lot of pool deck chatter about how the results will be used in seedings for JO's. These documents make those tournaments look fine for tuning up but irrelevant for seeding. Is that right?

Thanks to whoever answers! Just trying to sort out fact from pool-deck fiction. :)

someone correct me if i'm wrong, but last year's results determine the seedings for the respective zones. The NJO qualifications determine which teams from those zone's take those spots.

That is correct. As the zone allocations are based on last year's finishes. You will often see the strongest teams for the current year seeded much lower. Then some of the strongest teams end up playing each other on Day 2 after the Top 12 teams drop into a new bracket with 4 groups of 3.

Fortunatley there are play in games, but this can still take a toll on the strongest teams when they have to battle against each other early in the tournament.

IMO after US Club Champs, USAWP should look at the top 12 teams and re-seed based on the final results from that tournament, as all the top teams go there. (At least on the girls side.)

I thought that last year LAAC team was affiliated with the SOPAC zone. If this is correct, #9 seed in 18U Boys should go to SOPAC.
