If you are referring to the SOPAC 18's it is in the Qual Tournament thread, same with the Pacific and the PSW.

Does the same process happen with the championship and classic divisions ?

I know the Championship division is done this way (using the zones finish last year ). I would presume the Classic is done the same way.

Six possible upsets for 18U boys competition on the first day (from more likely to less likely)

Lamo over SET (well, 13th seed over 12th is hardly an upset of course)
OCWPC over CHAWP
SD Shores over Newport (if those Hungarians are really that good and manage to mesh well with local talent)
ORWPC over Renegades (ORWPC beat Renegades at Cal Cup Finals in April, why not to repeat it in July)
SHAQ over Stanford (could be a close game even though SHAQ finished fourth at the Pacific Quals)
Royal 559 over LA Premier

Perhaps these are not the only possibilities- I did not intend to offend/ underestimate any team.

12x4 on Day 1 (48 teams) and then platinum is 8x3 on Day 2 (top 24 teams from Day 1). Look at last year's schedule/results on USA Water Polo website.

To get a better perspective some of the age groups usually the 14's and up have a Championship (mostly 48 teams) and Classic (24-48 teams) division (some have an additional division called Invitational)) to start with.

The 48 team divisions are 12x4 to start on day 1. For example, the Championship division after day 1 will split into two groups of 24, the top 24 will complete in the platinum level where the bottom 24 will compete in the Gold levels where each level will have their own gold/silver/bronze medals for the top 3 teams. The same occurs in the 48 team Classic divisions for the Silver level and the Bronze level.

Thanks for the all the info, always. Another question. Your simulation shows the first 24 teams. What are the allocations for 25-48 and how are they determined? I thought SOPAC only got 8, and they are already all allocated in the top 24.

I only do the top 24 due to the amount of work it takes and normally the top 12 finishers in each age group come out of the top 24 teams. Seeds 25-48 are determined the same way, you take the 25-48 finishes from 2017, determine their zone and start plugging in the teams from that zone that finished in that slot.

I presume you are referring to the 18U Boys. They get 8 in the Championship division, 9 in the classic and 2 in the Invitational division for a total of 19 slots (teams) Also, what you normally end up for the SOPAC is that other zones do not meet their allocations and those allocations can be dispersed to other zones like SOPAC if they have remaining eligible teams. Hopes this helps.

SHAQ lost 4 games in a row at the Quals, CCU 2x (one in a shootout), Stanford, and LAMO. Stanford looks terrific, beating CCU 2x, Shaq and Lamo, all good teams, without much difficulty. SHAQ had little depth, only had a sub or two, not sure if they were missing guys or not. If it's the same group, I don't see them giving Stanford much trouble.

SHAQ lost to Stanford 8-9. See no reason why they could not do better in July. But I agree that Stanford is a favorite.
