Seems like teams are very evenly matched. Anybody can beat anybody, except I don't think anybody wants to be seeded 8th once CIF comes around, and have to play Newport

Great showing for OLU this weekend. Big win vs Laguna and tough loss to Newport, but great showing in both
Los Al also had a great showing

Here are the new rankings for D1. Three of the top four teams from the Surf League which also has all 4 of its teams in the top 8. That is a really tough league, especially when you consider that each team has to play each other twice.
Nice to see Wilson and Agoura in the Top 10. It will be interesting to see if they can crack the Top 8 and make it to the Open Division.
Surprised not to see Santa Margarita in the mix yet. I know that it has been noted that they have been missing players due to COVID, but I assume that most team have. I think that the loss of Vandeweghe hurt them quite a bit. She was really dynamic player that opponents really had to key on.
1 Newport Harbor
2 Orange Lutheran
3 Laguna Beach
4 Los Alamitos
5 Foothill
6 Mater Dei
7 San Marcos
8 CDM
9T LB Wilson
9T Agoura

I understand that rankings do not mean much right now, but they are entertaining to look at. Probably more so for parents’ egos, but still.
I was bored at the office today, so I was going through previous seasons on MaxPreps. Assuming that their info is correct, the last time that Laguna Beach has lost 2 games in a row was 10 years ago which comprises more than 275 games. To me, that is an incredible statistic.

Wow that is a crazy stretch. I guess they have been pretty decent .

I'm surprised they moved OLU so fast up to #2. They did beat Laguna in OT, but they also lost to San Marcos and Foothill, the week before in the tournament that was played before New Years.

They also lost to Laguna earlier in the year, but they may have had transfers sitting out at that point.

Yes this is why I only went back as far as last week of December, which by then I believe everybody must have had their transfer players. That's why I don't understand OLU being so high and San Marcos so low
Now we have Covid knocking players out or certain games.
Roster depth will be so important this year. Your starting center or goalie tests positive to Covid, and you better have players that can step up into those roles quickly, or you are in trouble.Let's hope we can have a decent season for the girls sake

OLu was missing their best player at Holiday Cup. Maybe that’s why they didn’t take those losses to San Marcos and Foothill into consideration for the latest rankings.

That makes sense. I bet that every team has missed players so far, but I do not think that any one team relies on a single player as much as OLu relies on her.
