That makes sense. I bet that every team has missed players so far, but I do not think that any one team relies on a single player as much as OLu relies on her.
Yeah, in the game when Olu beat Laguna in OT, she had 7 goals which included 3 goals from penalties she had drawn!

LOL, both teams were at full strength,
MD's Goalie had a great game & their girls played a very tight, player on player game.
This years top 6 all are very close, every game I have seen so far's been very exciting.

Los Al beats CDM. Impressed with the play of Los Al. Well coached and ran smart, creative scoring plays in the last 3 minutes in a seesaw battle. Some very talented scorers for Los Al. CDM looks good fundamentally but doesn’t have the typical scoring threats of years past. Kudos to the coaches for stressing fundamentals. Whose the Los Al coach and where is he from? What happened to Carlson? Has he left coaching?

Isn't the coach at Los Al the same that won JOs in 2018 with the 14U girls of Riptide, and who now coaches at United? If so, this is likely the HS manifestation of that same 14U team.

Los Al is a mix of the Riptide 14U team who won gold at the 2018 JOs and the United 14U team who won bronze at the 2019 JOs.
Their coach was the United 14U coach.

As far as I know, Carlson is still their coach. Maybe was not there yesterday

That score is a surprise. Can't remember the last time that a Laguna team gave up 15 goals or got beat by 7. Goes to show how good Newport is.
Traded texts with a very knowledgeable friend who was at the game last night. He said that Newport's center Bia Mantellato was the best player that he has seen all year. She had 5 goals and drew a 5 meter shot. She had 4 goals in the first quarter alone. I had Newport as the top team entering the season with standouts Smith and Netherton, but adding Mantellato takes them to another level.
Looks like Newport has taken a page out of CDM's playbook when Greek transfer students Ioanna and Stephania Haralabidas joined their 2013 team and helped lead the team to their one and only CIF-SS Division 1 title. That was a great CDM team with Papa and freshman Musselmann, but the twin sisters put them over the top, much like Brazilian Bia Mantellato will do this year with Newport.

From what I heard from a friend who was at the game, Newport went up 5-1 after the 1st quarter with the 4 goals from Bia. In Q2 she got into foul trouble and was pulled out for most of the quarter. Laguna then scored 4 goals ending Q2 with Newport up 6-5. In Q3 several of Laguna’s starters got into foul trouble and their center fouled out in Q4. Laguna then played their bench for the remainder of the game.
