I wanted to send this directly to each of the coaches who had one or
more athletes try out and compete with the NE Zome Premier League team
this spring. If you approve, we'd love to have them here this weekend,
and/or Apr 19-20. If there is a reason you don't want them here, no
problem. See the schedule and info enclosed below.
Here is a COMPLETE list of ALL the CWPA players who have attended one
or more Premier League tryouts/competitions this spring:
Richie Hyden (played in Moraga & Greenwich)
Miles Giluly (played in Moraga)
John Stupp (played in Moraga)
Boris Plavsic (played in Huntington Beach, Moraga, Greenwich)
Stefan Genic (played in Huntington Beach, Moraga, Greenwich)
Nick Eddy (played in Huntington Beach)
Nick Archambault (played in Huntington Beach)
Brendan Colgam (played in Moraga)
Jeff Cole (unavailable)
Kent Holland (played in Huntington Beach, Moraga, Greenwich)
30 Navy players tried out, one played in all three events, three played
in two, and 7 played in one.
Despite the small turnout, our DI Premier League team was able to
compete in all 3 of the tournaments, 2 in California and 1 in Greenwich. The
overall record was 1-11, with the lone win coming yesterday against
the Northern California team in a shootout. The team also lost close
games in Greenwich to Coastal California & Southern California, and not so
close to LA Water Polo club, 16-7. Complete game results and tournament
rosters are at the usawaterpolo.com site.
I'm really proud of what our team accomplished, and remain convinced
that participation in the DI Premier League must continue if our Zone and
the CWPA Conference expect to remain viable and compete at the
National and NCAA level.
Many thanks to Coach Misha Klochkov and Coach Tom Popp for their
efforts this weekend in Greenwich, they got it done better than I could have.
With Mladen in Croatia interpreting for President Bush, the Raider
Club from Florida in Annapolis all week with 30 players for a training
trip and weekend tournament with our Club that was scheduled in December,
there was no way for me to be in Greenwich, and I couldn't be happier
with the outcome of the weekend in all respects.
Our Zone Chair Andrew Selder, Zone Development staff Liz Grimes and our
treasurer Scott Killinger have all worked hard to make this happen,
and I thank them for their efforts. Coach Bill Harris at Fordham and
Coach JJ Addison from Connecticut College also helped in a big way by
hosting DII events at their pools.
I also want to thank each of the players who participated, as they were
a pleasure to work with, and gave us a great effort in each game we
Going forward, I am not sure what direction the NGB will be taking in
2009, but in any event it is my hope that the Northeast Zone will always
be included in the DI Premier League. As always, if we want to be more
successful, we will need more participation from more of the top CWPA
players and coaches than we've had in the past. I don't have any easy
solutions to make that a reality, but until we do, we will not see much
change in the status quo.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or input.
