JC All American?

Does anyone have any insight into what it means to be selected "All-American" as a JC player? Does this hold any weight with recruitment to a 4-year school? Is an official listing of All-Americans posted anywhere?

I'm wondering how much D1 coaches pay attention to the JC scene when it comes to recruiting. Thanks for any information someone can pass along!

Generally, top D1 teams don't pull from the JC system unless a really good player had abysmal grades coming out of HS. You don't want a player falling out of school after a semester. I know D3 teams pull good players; I was a JC to D3 transfer and we had about 5-6 total on the polo and swim teams.

I know of past instances where a D1 coach liked a player but knew they weren't going to play immediately due to upperclassmen roster depth. The coach pushed the player to a JC where they got 50-60 games worth of experience over the 2 years then transferred to the school. This is a good use of the system for talent development. The tricky thing about JC polo is they only practice 3-4 months out of the year.

If I was starting a new program, like Urbana University, I would heavily recruit at JCs.

Speaking of Central Valley boys, most recent JC transfers were Christian Emerson (Woodcreek HS to Cuesta College to USC) and Lucas Hastie (Rio Americano HS to Sierra College to UOP). I think both burnt only one year of college eligibility at the JC level and transferred as sophomores.
If your son got selected as All-American he should have a chance, imho.

There was also that Obert Kid.... I think the JC transfer option is highly underutilized, and its unfortunate. Athlete gets a great education for 1-2 years and the opportunity to play for a team where they can contribute and get good minutes and exposure, then transfer to a 4 year program where they will have a little more experience.

Obert’s transfer was some years ago. A couple of years later a couple of other kids from Sierra College (correction: West Valley College) transferred to UC Davis but I do not remember names now.

Abraham Santana transfers to UC Davis from Merced College.

Four student / athletes from Los Angeles Valley College ( LAVC ) are transferring to D1 schools to continue their academic and athletic careers, 2 to UCSD; 1 to UCI, and 1 to UCLA. Good development in the program, not sure any other school has 4 going on to D! this season. Well done!

Abraham Santana transfers to UC Davis from Merced College.

I though he played at SJSU. He was on their roster a couple of years ago.

I just looked at SJSU roster and hum Santana is not listed. So he must have gone from SJSU to UCDavis. I know he was on SJSU a couple of years ago. I saw him play there in several games.

Santana went to Merced College after his freshman season at SJSU. After a year at Merced he transferred to UC Davis but he is not on the roster at this time- no idea why.

Does anyone know of any JC transfers that have had a significant impact on a D1 team?

Other than Alex Obert at UOP? Just curious more than anything.

My favorite very recent example:

Jonathan Wong (LBSU) scored 22 goals (on 22 attempts!) last year as a junior. So far he has 16 goals (on 16 attempts!!!) this season. 100% shooting accuracy- unheard of :)

Sean Grab played a very significant role for UC Davis during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Saito had a significant role for UOP, especially during his senior season (2016?).
