Well apparently you have not been watching all these games this weekend is I understand how you come up with your predictions, using statistics.
However, just so you don't have to worry too much about predictions, I'm just going to tell you how they should be ranked, since I have been back and forth on both tournmanents this weekend. If OLU really wanted an aspirations to finish ranked 1st, they would have joined the Newport Invite, so they could have a crack at Foothill, but since they did not and Foothill won the Newport Invite, rankings will end like this.
1)Foothill
2) OLU
3) Laguna
4) Los AL
5) San Marcos
6) Newport
7) CDM
8) MD
9) LB Wilson, trying to get into that top 8, but loss to MLK today will hurt their chances.

San Marcos needed to at least make the final or beat Laguna today to get into top 4. Which would have given them a nice home game to start CIF

Foothill vs OLU in CIF Final folks. Buy your tickets now.

I think OLu will move to #1 with their win over Los Al. Foothill will move to #2 due to their loss to Laguna. They also play in a weak league. Olu has beaten two Top 10 teams in the Trinity League.

I think MLK should be in the mix for that 8th and final Open Division spot. I think they had a better weekend than did Mater Dei.

Cbarrot: it is truly amazing that you just disregarded 6 teams in the mix with your finals prediction. If you look at the season as a whole, most of the games between the top 8 have been decided by one to two goals and no one team has really dominated. Don’t forget that an eighth seed and way way back, a fifth seed won this division and both in year’s where there were clear cut favorites leading in the polls. My rankings were based on this weekend’s outcomes. With Los Al still having to play Laguna and Newport this week, things may change even more. It’s anybody’s tournament to win and the slightest mistakes made by every team will have dire repercussions on the eventual outcome of every game.

I think you can probably tell by now, what team I am biased towards :) I am a Knight at heart, and always will be. But yes you are correct, all these teams are actually awesome teams. Any of these teams can beat the other on any given day, and it will be a great CIF playoff this year for sure. And look at some of the great teams that will not end up in top 8. Division 1 will also be really cool to watch, with some great teams in it.

Good luck to your team friend.

You have got to be kidding. Who has MLK beat this year?

CDM has beat MLK in both of their games. 13-8 and 16-5. How could you put MLK above CDM?

CDM has also beat Bishop’s, Santa Margarita and San Marcos.

Mater Dei beat MLK in their one game and also has wins against Harvard Westlake and Dos Pueblos, both teams that MLK lost to, plus MD has quality wins against Santa Margarita, CDM and Bishop’s.

Again, who has MLK beat?

Also, MLK has a loss to Mater Dei earlier in the season.

I'm hoping either of you are correct with your predictions heading into CIF, it leaves my personal favorite team out of division they would never win. Whoever 7 and 8 may be, I just don't think they have a shot. I'm sure this thought begs the question that is asked this time of year which is whether or not you "Win" by being the 7th or 8th seed in Open division. For me, I feel that Division 1 would be a real good competition if the teams seeded 7th and higher would all go at it.

I think the Open is great for about 6 teams. Are there really ever more than 6 teams that could really win an Open championship? This year, it seems quite the exception, but in other years, it always seems like maybe the max is 3 teams that realistically have a shot. Just random Sunday thoughts.

San Marcos won CIF in 2018 as a 7th seed.

There is 2 issues here..

1. That these two tournaments were on the same weekend and split the teams up

With OLU,Los Al, CDM, SM and Wilson not being at the Newport Tournament, it makes this an advanced math problem to rank, and somebody's feelings will be hurt, no matter what the ranking ends up being, not just for the top 2-3 but also who's #8, vs. D1

I know the girls on many teams were disappointed that they didn't have a chance to play their equal ranked teams and give them another chance to prove themselves. -- and that's really who this is all for. Yah we won.. But our biggest rivals were not here..

Given the close win/loss ratios, I feel should have taken the top 10 and put them at Newport, and the others at the Socal Tournament.

Or played these tournaments different weekends.. more games would help with the averages and rankings given the lack of trends for each team.

Newport was an Invite tournament of 8.. they controlled who was at their tournament.

The Socal tournament was open to all, hosted by Foothill.. with 18 teams..

Newport and/or Foothill could have fixed our advanced math problem, if they wanted to..

2. The national team taking HighSchool players during season, it's not really fair on anyone.. The teams loose their stars and loose games that upset their rankings.

The opposition team does not get a chance to play a full strength team and get a couple of W/L's and play real polo, with strategy and execution.

This makes issue #1 a bigger issue, as it's caused so many upsets..

This comes up every year…
Maybe someone could go back and check results, but how often do the 9 and 10 teams go on to reach or win D1 finals?

The idea that a team is better off missing the open and getting a top D1 seed, seems to imply that they’re a shoo-in to win that title. With that kind of confidence, why not hope for a shot at Open? Or maybe the problem is those teams aren’t very confident in themselves and just want an easier path…which to me isn’t a very good recipe for success, regardless of what division your in.

At the end of it all a team/athlete will go into the post season with the goal of winning it all…regardless of who their playing. But I’d sure hate to be the one who hopes to ‘win’ by losing, and then still end up losing. That would be a huge disappointment. Hope your team does suffer that fate Longbeachpolofan.
